Duely Knowledge Base

This knowledge base explains what Australian AML/CTF law requires of your firm, and how to carry that out in Duely.

It is written for the firms brought into the regime by Tranche 2: accounting, real estate, legal, conveyancing, and jewellery services. If you are not sure whether that includes you, start with What Duely is.

Where to start

How this knowledge base is organised

The six sections answer different questions. They are kept apart because a guide that mixed the law with the buttons would drift out of step with both.

  • Start Here orients you: what Duely is, how the screens are arranged, who can see what, and the sequence for your first month.
  • Obligations is the law. Each page takes one obligation, states it, and cites the provision behind it. Use it when you need to know what is required of your firm, and cite from it when someone asks.
  • Using Duely is the product. Each page walks through a workflow: firm setup, the program builder, creating a matter, onboarding a customer, verification, screening, evidence, and reporting.
  • Reference holds the short-form material: a glossary, the deadline table, and a list of what Duely does not do.
  • Verticals covers how the obligations apply to each of the five verticals, since the designated services differ by industry.
  • Troubleshooting covers what to do when something is not working.

Three ideas behind the regime

Most confusion about AML/CTF obligations comes from missing one of these.

Obligations attach to the service you provide. Providing a designated service triggers them; having a client relationship does not. A firm can act for the same client for years without an obligation, then take on one piece of work that triggers the full regime.

Every obligation in the regime is satisfied by doing something and being able to show it. A firm that verified a customer correctly but cannot produce the record is, from the regulator's side, indistinguishable from a firm that did not. This is why Duely is built as a system of record rather than a checklist.

Obligations commence from 1 July 2026, and enrolment opened on 31 March 2026. A firm that is still configuring its program in July is already behind on its first engagements.

If you are new to the regime

Read in this order, and do not skip the fourth step. The program builder is a prerequisite for everything after it, because a matter cannot be scoped until your firm has a published program version.

  1. What Duely is, for the two-minute version.
  2. Obligations overview, for the designated service test that decides whether any of this applies to you.
  3. First 30 days, for the setup sequence.
  4. Firm setup and Program builder, to work through it.
  5. Creating a matter, when you are ready to open your first engagement.
